The 2026 Specialized Aethos 2 is arguably the best premium road bike for an average rider if you prioritise pure riding enjoyment, comfort, and climbing prowess over flat-out aerodynamic speed and less comfort. The Aethos 2 has been completely overhauled with a 15mm taller stack, a slacker head angle, a longer wheelbase, and massive 35mm tyre clearance. 

This translates to a significantly more upright, stable, and forgiving ride that is much better suited to everyday enthusiasts and removes the aggressive, back-straining stretch of traditional race bikes, making long weekend miles much more comfortable.
