The next level above the popular Shimano 105 groupset, Ultegra offers a weight saving, thanks to a carbon fibre brake lever blade, and trickle down technology from the top end Dura Ace shifters. Using these 11 speed Ultegra shifters will result in smoother shifting and great braking performance. Light and robust they offer top end performance with consistent gear changes.

These shifters, and the Ultegra groupset, are perfect for both the weekend enthusiast rider and competitive riders and racers. For those with smaller hands these levers have a reach adjuster and the overall shape of Shimano’s shifter hoods has been slimmed down over recent years to be much more comfortable. Shimano call it “improved ergonomics for better rider comfort and control.” Larger handed riders have commented that they are easier to wrap their hands around as well for a sure grip.

Shimano have also improved the shift feel and these shifters do operate with an impressive light action and shifts are easier at the front and rear helped by Polymer coated cables. Shifting under load is also very good for instance if you realise you are in the wrong gear going up a steep hill. The use of lighter materials for the shifter lever and the composite body of the hood account for most of the weight saving over around 70 grams over a pair of 105 11 speed shifters.
